There may be a multitude of causes.  Can you determine whether they are worker bees or males drones?  I would encourage you to open the hive to see what is going on.  You should be concerned as to whether the hive is queenless.  Contact me if you would like to discuss this on the phone.  Depending where you are located, me or someone else could come take a look at the hive.

Hello all. I installed my first two nucs two weeks back. They’ve been doing well, foraging, visiting the water source, etc. Then today I checked on them and on the ground in front of one of the hives, 24 dead bees. Thoughts? Due to the cold weather? Lifecycle? None of these dead bees were there yesterday. I’ve only opened the hive once since installation and hesitate to open again until the warmer temps return. Any of your insights would be appreciated. Thank you.
