COARC Saturday in the Apiary

Free and open to the public.

“Saturday in the Apiary” is an opportunity to gather, visit, and learn more about beekeeping at OSU’s apiary in Madras. You are invited to come and discuss hive management strategies for the month and get to know other beekeepers in the region.  Following  the example of “Friday in the Apiary “ at the OSU campus in Corvallis, a very popular event among OMB participants in the Southern Willamette Valley, this is a casual, loosely structured event intended to provide a learning experience in a relaxed setting.

Topics for this Saturday include mites and preparing hives for winter. Were the treatments we applied at the August 29 workshop effective and sufficient? Are all the colonies still queenright? We will do supplementary feeding, and learn when the hives have reached a good weight. What other preparations are needed? What do you do to get your hives ready for winter?

Bring your hat/veil/gloves. Plus a brown bag lunch if you have time afterwards to stay a little bit longer. RSVP Heike Williams at heike.williams@oregonstate.edu . Feel free to call her at 541-740-7877 for questions or further details including directions. Looking forward to seeing you there!
