April is the time queens are ramping up their egg laying. Colonies thrive unless there is a problem like not enough feed, a queen is failing, or there are simply not enough bees to cover an expanding brood nest. In the latter case, we can “borrow” bees and brood from a strong hive to boost a small one. We will check the colonies at the apiary and find out what they need.
Apprentices in the Oregon Master Beekeeping Program can earn education points. RSVP required. Please email Heike Williams at heike.williams@oregonstate.edu for details and notification of possible changes. This event is weather dependent. Remember to bring your hat/veil/gloves. Looking forward to seeing you!

“Saturday in the Apiary” is a casual, loosely structured event intended to provide a learning experience in a relaxed setting. We perform hive inspections, discuss colony management strategies for the month, and implement them. Everyone who is comfortable being around live honey bees is welcome. You would need to bring your own gear. This is a free event.
