Time to put on a bee veil and check hives in the COARC Apiary. Are the colonies drawing out frames and making honey? How can we check if there is a nectar flow? Two nucs had been set up with new queens recently and can be checked if the queen were accepted. In addition, we need to check the mite infestation levels of the colonies. More on treatment options at the August Saturday in the Apiary.
Apprentices in the Oregon Master Beekeeping Program can earn education points. RSVP required. Please email Heike Williams at heike.williams@oregonstate.edu for details and notification of possible changes. This event is weather dependent. Remember to bring your hat/veil/gloves and water. Looking forward to seeing you!

“Saturday in the Apiary” is a casual, loosely structured event intended to provide a learning experience in a relaxed setting. We perform hive inspections, discuss colony management strategies for the month, and implement them. Everyone who is comfortable being around live honey bees is welcome. You would need to bring your own gear. This is a free event.
