Swarm control will be the word of the day at this hands-on workshop. Is a colony getting ready to swarm? What do we do if it does, or if it swarmed already? Making splits might be on the agenda if queens are available (or even if not). Also, learn how to mark queens by practicing on drones Participants in the Oregon Master Beekeeping Program can earn ‘In the Bees’ or education points. Journeys can earn service points by leading a group.
Please contact Heike beforehand if you are interested. RSVP required and space is limited. Please email Heike Williams at heike.williams@oregonstate.edu to register and notification of possible changes. This event is weather dependent. Remember to bring your bee suit/veil/gloves. “Saturday in the Apiary” is a casual, loosely structured event intended to provide a learning experience in a relaxed setting. We perform hive inspections, discuss colony management strategies for the month, and implement them. Everyone who is comfortable being around live honey bees is welcome. You would need to bring your own gear. This is a free event.
