June COBKA Meeting
The field day will start at 8:30 with registration at 815 and will continue until about 1 PM.
Dr. Dewey Caron will talk about summer hive management techniques including mites. We will have separate demonstrations about queens, mite sampling, and hive evaluations. Plan on bringing a lawn chair, sunscreen and a bag lunch, but water and some snacks will be provided. Also plan on bringing your own protective gear as appropriate.
Hope to see you there! 20355 Swalley Rd., Tumalo, OR (mapquest says Bend).
Please note that the workshop below will be led by Guest Speaker Dr. Dewey Caron. Dewey is a professor emeritus entomologist who worked for 40+ years as faculty at the University of Maryland and the University of Delaware. He is the author of 10 books on honey bees and active member of the Honey Bee Health Coalition (yes, Tools for Varroa Management!), the Eastern and Western Apiculture Societies, and the American Beekeeper Federation. Upon retirement he moved to Portland, OR, and lucky us (!) got immediately involved with the Honey Bee Lab at OSU and the fledgling Oregon Master Beekeeper Program. Now he is Affiliate Faculty OSU and works as Program consultant/content specialist for the OR Master Beekeeper program.
This is a great opportunity to tap into Dewey’s immense wealth of knowledge about honey bees and honey bee research. Don’t miss it!
