The Silence of the Bees
Have you experienced a colony loss this winter?
Join us for a hands-on Deadout Hive Inspection focused on evaluating non-surviving colonies and identifying likely causes of loss.
Allen will walk participants through systematic hive necropsy techniques, including reading frame evidence, assessing food stores, identifying cluster position, mite impact, and interpreting colony condition at time of death.
If you have discovered a deadout in your apiary, we encourage you to preserve the hive and bring it to the event.
Follow these instructions - Deadout Transportation Instructions
Do not disturb or clean the hive.
Transport the secured hive to the meeting location on March 17 between 4:00-4:30 PM.
Please also be prepared to share:
Colony history
Apiary location
Mite monitoring and treatment records
Feeding practices
Any relevant observations
A hive necropsy can:
Help identify probable causes of loss
Rule out common contributing factors
Improve future management decisions
Strengthen our knowledge through shared learning
Each colony tells a story. Understanding that story helps us move forward with greater confidence and skill.
